Clinical Supervision Model of Evaluation for Teachers

Teaching Safari provides a clinical supervision model of evaluation for teachers. This model works best when the entire process is videotaped.

The clinical supervision model consists of the following:

The Planning Conference (Pre-Conference)

§  Teacher states personal concerns, needs, and aspirations

§  Supervisor role is to help teacher clarify these perceptions so that there is a clear picture of the teacher’s current instruction, the teacher’s view of ideal instruction

§   Explore new techniques that the teacher might try in order to move the instruction toward the ideal

Classroom Observation

o   Setting: Teacher’s Job Site

o   Purpose: Collection of Data

§  Teacher behavior linked to student behavior (is learning taking place)

§  Data collection will focus on what was discussed in the pre conference

o   Analysis of Data

o   Purpose

o   Data collection and plan post conference

• No later than 24 hours

§  The teacher and supervisor meet to view the observational data, with the supervisor encouraging the teacher to make his or her own inferences about teaching effectiveness
