Chicago Bus Tour with Picnic in Millennium Park

Group will be picked up in a clean busand will meeta City of Chicago certified tour guideat Wrigley Field.Participants will have a chance to walk around and get a sense of the park, the statues, and the bleachers on top of the neighborhood buildings.

 

Leaving Wrigley, the group heads east on Addison to get a look across Lake Shore Drive at the Kraft Totem Pole in Lincoln Park.

 

Next it is south on the Inner Drive to Belmont towards the statue of General Phillip Sheridan. Heading south on Sheridan Road,the groupmerges into Lincoln Park at Diversey. Here is a great view of the large statue in honor of Goethe and a statue of Alexander Hamilton in the north end of the park.Tour members will drivepast the Lincoln Park Conservatory, the Peggy Notebart Nature Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo (we go right past the Farm in the Zoo), and onto Lake Shore Drive down around North Avenue.

 

Driving south on Lake Shore Drive,thegroup willexit at Michigan Avenue. This takes the tour past the John Hancock Building and past the Chicago Water Tower. Continuing south on Michigan Avenue, the group goes over the Chicago River and heads west on Wacker Drive for a great view of Marina City and the Merchandise Mart (the largest commercial building in the world).

 

The tour then makes its way to the Thompson Center for a visit to the building and the plaza with the Jean Dubuffet statue. Bathroom break!

 

Leaving the Thompson Center, the group will head west on Madison Street to go past the Ogilvie Transportation Center and past the Social Security Building with Claus Oldenberg's "Batcolumn" in front. Making theirway past Union Station, the group will stop at the plaza and lobby of Sears Tower. Tour perticipants will be able to see the Alexander Calder mobile in the lobby and look up at this amazing building.

 

Getting back on the bus, the group will make theirway to Washington Street and go east past Daley Plaza (the Picasso) and the Joan Miro statue just across the street - headingto the south loop and past the large Calder stabile in the Federal Plaza on Dearborn.

 

We make our bus driver a bit crazy as we do some more doubling back in order to getthe group to Michigan Avenue for a drive past the Art Institute to see the famous lions. This drive takes the group north on Michigan Avenue to Randolph where the driver will let the group off for a visit to Millennium Park. Here the group will see Cloud Gate ("The Bean"), Crown Fountain, the Pritzker Pavilion, and take a walk across the Frank Gehry bridge that spans Columbus Drive. Bathroom Break!This is where the group will have achance to eat in the park. A picnic in Millenium Park - classic! Lunch can be provided for an additional fee - most groups pack their own meals.

 

During the drive, the City of Chicago certified tour guide willdiscuss the Water Tower and the Great Chicago Fire, the reversal of the Chicago River and the bridges, the Chicago 'L' system and whatever else comes to mind! The stops all allow for participants to get off the bus without them having to cross any streets.
